The 2022 DFL 52 Senate District Convention
Update: The first convention of the new Senate District 52 was a big success! There were 148 delegates in attendance. We endorsed Jim Carlson for Senate in SD52. We also endorsed Liz Reyer for House District 52A and Ruth Richardson for House District 52B. We passed 27 resolutions. Click here to see which ones will be sent on to the State DFL.
When: Saturday, April 9, 2022. Registration begins at 9:00AM, Convention convenes at 10:00AM. The Convention will end by 4:00PM. A $20 donation is suggested to help cover costs. A snack bar will be open throughout the convention!
Where: Black Hawk Middle School cafeteria (1540 Deerwood Drive in Eagan)
Who: Those who indicated they wanted to be a Delegate or Alternate on their Contactless Precinct Caucus form are Delegates and should attend! All other DFLers can attend as a visitor.
What: Endorse our candidates for the MN House of Representatives and MN Senate, elect delegates to the DFL Congressional and State Conventions, vote on resolutions for the DFL Platform, and elect new Senate District 52 officers.
How you can help: The Arrangements committee needs people to drive tables to Black Hawk, set up and clean up the convention hall, bring ice and staff the refreshments table. Click here to sign up to help! You do not need to be a delegate to help out at the convention.

Senate District Elections
At the convention we will be electing the postitions listed below. If you are interested in any of the Senate District officer positions, sign up for an interview with the Nominations Committee. You must also submit an application prior to your interview.
Position Descriptions
CHAIR: The Chair presides at meetings of the Senate District 52 (SD52) Central and Executive committees. As the leader of SD52, the Chair works with DFL-endorsed legislative candidates to help get them elected. He or she helps set up precinct caucuses and conventions and opens the SD52 Convention following the procedures described in the State DFL Call. The Chair is responsible for managing the district, organizing candidate support, fund-raising, various events, and being the public face of the district. The Chair is a member of the Second Congressional District (CD2) Executive and Central committees. The Chair should be knowledgeable about the rules of the State DFL.
VICE CHAIR: The Vice Chair must identify as a different gender than the Chair. The Vice Chair presides at the SD52 Central and Executive committee meetings in the absence of the Chair. Other duties include assisting in the discharge of the Chair's duties and attending meetings of the CD2 Central Committee.
SECRETARY: The Secretary is responsible for taking and preserving the minutes and attendance records of all proceedings of the SD52 Executive and Central committees, coordinating mailings, communication with SD52 members and state organizations, and maintaining databases and other records. Some computer skills required.
TREASURER: The Treasurer is in charge of the funds of the Senate District. The Treasurer also completes and files all MN campaign finance reports for the district, issues SD52 MN campaign refund forms, maintains the checkbook, receives funds, pays bills and writes thank you notes to donors. Training is provided. Some computer skills required.
OUTREACH OFFICER: The Outreach & Inclusion Officer is responsible for outreach to underrepresented groups and shall conduct or sponsor wide-ranging, intentional and results-oriented activities designed to recruit and engage such groups in party affairs within SD52. The Officer ensures the district complies with affirmative action principles of the DFL.
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER: The Communications Officer is responsible for maintaining the district website and managing social media activities in conjunction with the Secretary, sending communications on behalf of the Chair, Executive Committee and Central Committee, and maintaining an electronic repository of important district documents. Some computer skills required.
SENATE DISTRICT DIRECTORS (11): Directors serve on and perform functions assigned to them by the SD52 Chair and Executive or Central committees. These could include service on a committee involving the district budget, fundraising, database development, precinct development, voter registration, outreach, events, and candidate development. No experience required.
STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS (6 Delegates, 8 Alternates): The State Central Committee (SCC) is the governing body of the MN DFL between state conventions. It is the responsibility of our SCC members to make certain we are represented at these meetings by a full delegation. Meetings are held all over the state. SCC members attend SD52, CD2 and SCC meetings.
